Well, now. That was awfully nice of someone to think about it now that most of the city has already been without power for three days!!! So, it never dawned on anyone to open, say, Lloyd Noble or McCasland as a disaster shelter once it became apparent that half of the university was without lights or heat? Ray Nagin did a better job in New Orleans! Well, thanks to the power crews from Texas arriving today, I now have electricity at my own house and won't have to stay at the church another night. So, glad you finally got around to responding to the crisis, OU, but you're too damned late.

Ohhhh now the administration offers to help. Sounds like Bush after Katrina. It is time to ask for resignations of the incompetent.

Hey everybody, come to the union food court. There's FREE food!! Waffle, pancake, sausage, coffee & OJ.

It's about time! Where was the university Monday and Tuesday night? We all know Boren was warm with his Christmas lights, while half the student body was powerless. The president should be embarrassed.

Since when is "being without power" a crisis or an emergency? Do you not have blankets? Sweaters? We survived for thousands of years without electricity, and all of a sudden three days without it will be, for many, the worst hardship they ever face... ...College students are the most selfish, spoiled and short-sighted human beings on the planet.

Blake - 12/16/07 11:44am

"Stuart", are you an idiot? Yes, humans survived without power for thousands of years, but unfortunately, we cannot light fires in our apartments, and cook hunted meat for sustenance. We need electricity to cook, lights to study, and internet access for our classes. So I ask you, were you without power? Did you have to deal with losing your entire fridge worth of food, having to overdraft your bank account in order to get lunch or dinner? You are the one who sounds short sighted for not realizing that yes, humans can live without power, but not in the way we are accustomed to, or in a way we can deal with. Think before you speak.

of course people feel absolutely crippled without electricity. it powers nearly all of our indulgences... television, internet, long hot showers, central heating... hasn't everyone felt a little off-kilter when their cable goes out even if its just for a few hours? its like there's this huge struggle to fill the man-made void. However, i do agree that it seems a little delayed that OU offers to extend their services now that a lot of people have left the area to return home for the break, nearly a full week after the power failures kicked in. why bother?
